SHIMADZU - Cytochrome Oxidase Test Strip
This product is a test paper that can easily and quickly detect cytochrome oxidase, an enzyme found in bacteria.
Usage
-
Place one test strip in a petri dish and drip a small amount of sterile water (enough to wet the entire test strip).
-
Immediately us a plastic ose, wooden stick or toothpick to take a colony from the solid medium and apply it to the moistened test strip.
Result Interpretation
- Positive : The applied area turns to deep blue within 1 minute
- Negative : No change
Caution
The cytochrome oxidase reaction will cause false positive reaction in the presence of iron, so care must be taken not to use tap water to moisten the test strip, not to use nichrome wire, and not to test colonies on blood agar. Also be aware that testing colonies on a medium containing sugar may result in a false negative.
